World War II ends

World War II ended with Germany surrendering on May 7, 1945 to the Western Allies, and May 8, 1945 to the Soviet Union. About a week later, Adolf Hitler committed suicide. Atomic bombs were dropped on Japan in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and August 9, 1945. The Japanese Emperor formerly surrendered on August 15, 1945.
